Dawit's Story
By Dawn M
We started the adoption process with one clear idea: we wanted an infant girl. We began the paperwork to bring home a baby from China. Several months later, we saw a photo in a WHFC newsletter, and changed course. We found ourselves adopting a 3 1/2 year old boy from Ethiopia. Parenting is an evolutionary process, and this parenting experience was no different.
Home since 2/06, our family has changed remarkably. The best part has been watching the magical relationship grow between brother and sister. They couldn’t be better suited for each other. Lily is Dawit’s biggest cheerleader and competitor in all sports and imagined superhero battles. Dawit is Lily’s best friend and kindred spirit. He will even give in and play "unicorns" with his big sister on occasion. They will be attending the same elementary school this year, and they are thrilled to have the same recess so they can spend time together during the day.
Our journey as a family of four continues to be filled with surprises and happiness. This is a life that I had never imagined, and it has brought unexpected joy and a fresh way of experiencing the wonder of the world.
