Angelika's Story

By Liza D

Hello, my name is Angelika. I was born on February 1, 1998 in Revda, a small town north of Ekaterinburg, Russia. My parents visited me in May and adopted me on August 9, 2001. My dad would blow bubbles at me and the other kids. My dad and I would play with balloons, too. I got a necklace with my name on it from my parents. I got lots and lots of pictures taken of me. I had such a wonderful time when my parents came to visit.

I did not like the ride on the airplane. I yelled and screamed. When I got to my new home in Boston, I got lots of toys. My new brothers’ names were Dan, Jared, and Jason. My brother Dan went to a school called Brimmer & May. I went to a school called Apple Orchard.

After I lived in Boston for about a year, my family moved to Claremont, NH. Now I am 9 years old and I live on a farm. We have 3 chickens, 3 sheep, 1 llama, 2 horses, 2 dogs, 4 cats, and a tortoise. Every summer we let some cows from one of our friends stay in one of our fields to eat grass. That is what lives on our farm.

Here are some things about me: My favorite color is turquoise. My favorite sport is softball. My favorite thing to do is read. My favorite food is quiche, but I will try anything. I go to Disnard Elementary School and I’m going into 4th Grade. My three brothers are great! Living in Claremont, NH is great!

I think being adopted is cool because it makes me special in my family. I think it makes me special in my family because I am from halfway around the world and because I still know some Russian words. If people ask me what Russian words I remember, I tell them I know "cat," "dog," "underwear" and "grandma." Those are the only Russian words I remember.

Most of the people I know don’t make fun of my name or say it wrong. If someone says my name wrong on accident, I don’t mind. If they say it wrong on purpose, I won’t be happy! In Russian, my name means "little angel."
