Humanitarian Aid: Fundraising Events

Fundraising is an important part of the work we do at the agency. Our efforts to assist children around the world would not be possible without the generous support of our donors and the active support of our parent volunteers who are essential to the success of our fundraising events.

Annual Golf Classic

We are pleased to announce that the Golf Classic 2008 raised nearly $60,000 to support our expanding Humanitarian Aid Program. Read more about the event. Our 11th Annual Golf Classic will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Marlborough Country Club.

Acting Locally to Support Globally

Many of our families and supporters decide to organize their own fundraising initiatives throughout the year to benefit our charitable programs. We sincerely thank these special advocates who have not only given generously of their own resources, but who have encouraged many outside our circle to support our aid and adoption subsidy programs. Family fundraiser examples include:

  • Whole Foods 5% Day - On Tuesday, September 19, 2006, once again the Whole Foods store in Wayland, MA generously donated 5% of its net sales to WHFC's Humanitarian Aid program.
  • The Orphan Train, a moving and inspirational play about the orphan train movement by award winning playwright Aurand Harris, was held in February, 2006 to benefit Wide Horizons For Children's humanitarian aid efforts.
  • Local golf tournament - Claudia Veiga organized a golf tournament in Rhode Island through her employer, Rockland Financial Mortgage.
  • Jack's Team runs races to raise funds for projects to help children in Moldova have a better life.
  • Fred Gerson Fund - Adoptive dad and sons ride to raise funds to benefit orphans in Moldova.
  • Family & friends celebration - Abby and Andrew Peklo recently hosted "A Coffee Celebration" at their home in honor of their son's birthday. Guests were treated to a champagne brunch and coffee tasting, raising over $750 to help children in Guatemala.
  • Performance benefit - Peggy Brooks enlisted the help of her Starlight Stage Youth Theatre in Williamstown, MA. All proceeds from their opening night performance of "Peter Pan", attended by approximately 200 people, will benefit WHFC's reception center, Horizon House, in Ethiopia.

The list of similar efforts goes on and on. Why not consider organizing a fundraising event of your own? Besides being lots of fun, it is a great way to reconnect with family and friends. If you have a fundraising idea, contact Laura Wells at 781.419.0362 or lwells@whfc.org.
