Humanitarian Aid in Moldova - Support for Orphanages
OUR WORK IN MOLDOVA
In Moldova, children are housed according to their age and health. Newborns and young children up to 4 or 5 years of age are housed in Baby Homes. Once children reach 5 years of age, they are transferred to Boarding Schools where they will remain until age a7.
When Moldova was open to international adoption, orphanages benefited from the donations of visiting adoptive parents and their affiliated agencies. However, since adoption closed and the economic situation in Moldova has worsened, care of orphaned children has deteriorated. Babies are at risk of nutritional deprivation, insufficient medical care, and general neglect due to inadequate caretaker ratios. Packed into poorly heated, poorly ventilated buildings, growing children are faced with a wide range of challenges and deprivations. Lack of adequate education, physical exercise, nutritious food, adult supervision, or medical and psychological services result in a host of unfortunate outcomes for institutionalized children.
