Humanitarian Aid in India
India is a country of a billion people, with the world’s largest disparity between rich and poor. A walk down the streets of Mumbai, known as the country’s commercial capital, reveals contradictory scenes of amazing affluence and heartrending poverty.
Most affected by poverty and social inequality are India’s children, millions of whom have lost one or both parents. Orphaned and abandoned children live on the streets or in underfunded institutions. In some cases, children who remain in their homes are forced to take on the role of a deceased parent, leaving school to find jobs – including migrant work.
WHFC has worked in India for 35 years. In addition to placing close to 300 children in loving homes, we have joined with dedicated partners to fund many humanitarian aid projects. At present, we are working with Family Service Center (FSC) to serve families through community development initiatives and child sponsorship.

Family Service Center (FSC)Serving Families through Community Development and Child SponsorshipWomen of the Azad Nagar Slum come together through FSC to empower their families and community through TB clinics, trash removal, preschool classes and more. We also fund FSC's program to sponsor more than 160 children living in slums. For $150 per year these children receive the financial and emotional support they need to attend school and thrive. |
