Humanitarian Aid in India
India is home to more than 1 billion people. A walk down one of Mumbai’s streets will reveal contradictory scenes of amazing affluence and heartrending poverty; India has the world’s largest disparity between the rich and the poor. Most affected by poverty and social inequality are India’s more than 445 million children, 25.7 million of whom are orphans. India’s orphaned children can be found on the streets, in under funded institutions and, in cases where one parent is still alive, in their home where they take over the deceased parent’s role. Orphans who remain in their homes generally have to leave school to take care of the house work or find jobs, including migrant work.
WHFC has worked in India for over 30 years. In addition to placing 250 children in loving homes, we have contributed to a number of humanitarian aid projects for the children who are left behind and facing a life of grinding poverty. We are proud to be working with dedicated organizations and individuals in India who share our passion to make a lasting difference for children.
