As one of the pioneering agencies to begin work in China when they opened for international adoption, we placed the first group of children from China in 1991. The China program is a long-standing, stable and predictable program. A unique feature of this program is that a group of adoptive parents will travel to China together accompanied by experienced agency escorts. Sometimes a physician may travel with the group. Groups tend to stay in touch throughout the child's lifetime, providing the opportunity for children to grow up with others who share her/his history.

China Concurrent Adoption

WHFC offers the possibility of a "concurrent" adoption process in the China program. Families who are eligible for this program will be able to maintain their current log-in date with CCAA after adopting a child from another program or giving birth to a child. As a general rule, we encourage families that are within 18 months of a referral from China to complete their China adoption before applying to another program. For details on the China Program Concurrent Adoption Process, please contact your social worker (if you are a current WHFC client), or the WHFC China Program Team.

The Children

The great majority of children available for adoption are single infant girls. Occasionally toddlers and preschoolers are available. On rare occasions, twins or boys are placed from China.
