Country Info
Colombia is the northernmost country in South America and is located in the zone where Central and South America meet. Colombia shares land boundaries with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. It is the fourth largest country in South America and the only one with coasts on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
Spanish is the official language however some indigenous groups speak only their native languages. Catholicism remains the predominant religion. Colombians pride themselves on the warmth and hospitality of their people, the beauty of their nature and their indigenous history that has enriched and diversified their culture. It will be hard to make a trip to Colombia without tasting the unique native coffee and being tempted to bring home a souvenir of precious stones, especially emeralds.
Colombians are family oriented and treat children with much love and attention. Adoptive families have been overwhelmed by the kindness of the people that they have come in contact with while in country. Additionally, they rave about the beautiful beaches, the cosmopolitan cities and the lush and bounding mountains. The cuisine of Colombia is based on meat, beans, soups and exotic fruits, especially plantains. Desserts are also very popular. Families have only complimented the variety and the taste of Colombian dishes.
