Program Criteria

Marital Status: Married couples as well as single women and men are eligible to adopt from Costa Rica. Couples must be married for a minimum of 5 years at the time of application to the program.

Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 25 years, and no older than 57 years of age at time of application. Parents must be at least 15 years older than the child(ren) they are adopting. Costa Rican law dictates that neither adoptive parent may be older than 60 years at the time the adoption is approved by the court in-country.

Other: Applicants must have medical histories free of chronic or debilitating illnesses or conditions that have potential to impede long-term parenting. There should not be any history of arrests or convictions for any criminal offense.
