Children of all ages are waiting for families. Presently, WHFC has the greatest need for families adopting older children, 18 months and up. Infants, as well as sibling groups, are also available for adoption. Both girls and boys are in equal need of adoption. All children will be tested for HIV, Hep B, and VDRL before being matched for adoption. Families will receive basic medical information and some family background information, if available.
Children who are available for adoption from Ethiopia may have been abandoned, relinquished for adoption by one or both birth parents, or a birth relative. Children waiting for placement may have initially resided in a local orphanage, community care, or in the hospital of birth. Others might be living with birth family members. Once the child is identified for international placement they will be moved to the WHFC Horizon House in the capital, Addis Ababa.
