India Adoption Program: The Process

Waiting time for referral is estimated at between 12-18 months or longer after dossier submission. The estimate for families traveling to bring home their children is about 5-6 months after acceptance paperwork is received in India. All families must adopt through one of our 6 partner agencies in India and may not work through their own contacts. There are two different adoption laws in India. In cases where a husband is Hindu, the couple may choose to adopt under the "Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act of 1956," while others may adopt under the "Guardianship and Wards Act of 1890."
