While there may be more resources in Ethiopia's capital than in other regions, there are still a large number of orphaned children there in need of care. WHFC provides continued support to Horizon House, our facility for children awaiting adoption, and other child-caring facilities in and around Addis Ababa.
Many of the children we place through our transition home, Horizon House, have come from Beta Seida Orphanage. This facility has ongoing operational needs that we support as our funding allows. We are exploring the opportunity to construct an HIV wing for this orphanage so that children testing positive can remain in this facility and receive the benefit of the higher level care provided. Currently, these children must be transferred to an HIV specific orphanage.
Wide Horizons For Children currently operates two transitional homes for children who are being readied to meet their adoptive families. While our program fees support many of the services and staffing provided for the children, there have been and will continue to be opportunities to provide improvements through our humanitarian aid program.
