Guatemala Child Sponsorship Program

"Our lives changed from the moment this program began. Before I used to have a hard time buying milk for my child. Now I can feed her. My daughter says that she doesn't want to wake up from this dream. I know there are many children who would want to be a part of this program and can't. I pray for them, that they will find the help they need."

SPONSORS make it possible for our children's hearts to be red and shine. With your love, the sponsorship children can smile and have opportunities in their lives.

The Children

Children enrolled in the Guatemala Child Sponsorship Program are usually those who have remained with their birth families, but are living in extreme poverty. They generally range in age from 1-12 years and live in barrios in or near Guatemala City, usually in single-parent homes. Mothers typically have several children, and work at low-paying jobs or rely on government assistance to support their families.

The Benefits of Sponsorship

Sponsorship of a child in Guatemala costs $400 per year. Children enrolled in the sponsorship program receive regular rations of food, clothing and medicines. If they are old enough, they are also required to attend school. Children's progress is closely monitored by our staff in Guatemala.

In addition, sponsored children attend regular group events at which they receive meals and are exposed to things like art therapy, dental care, psychological services, holiday celebrations and recreational activities.

Currently there are more than 150 children in Guatemala whose lives have been profoundly changed because of a caring family who is sponsoring them.

Alongside the sponsorship program, there are a number of ongoing medical, educational and other types of community development projects in the areas where sponsored children live.
