We are experienced
Since 1974, Wide Horizons For Children (WHFC) has placed over 10,000 children with adoptive families, and worked in more than 50 countries around the world. Our staff members are regularly contacted by the media and others to share their expertise. When it comes to international adoption, our program staff - some of whom are natives of the countries they work in - serve as important liaisons between foreign adoption officials and adoptive families. In fact, program teams are often in daily contact with these officials, and are extremely well informed about how best to guide families through the intricacies of the process.
We understand
The decision to build or expand your family through adoption is one of the most important and life-changing decisions you will ever make and one that the staff at WHFC understands. Many of our staff members are adoptive parents, adoptees or have other personal connections to adoption.
We offer choice
WHFC works with trusted partners around the world and offers long-standing adoption programs in Asia, Africa, Latin American, Russia and the US. Our program choices allow prospective parents to find one or more countries that are a good fit for them.
We have approval to operate in Hague Convention Countries
We are among the first agencies to be approved by the Council on Accreditation (COA) as a national adoption services provider. This allows us to work with families adopting from countries that have joined the Hague Convention on Protection of Children. The Convention strengthens protections for adopted children, including ensuring that intercountry adoptions take place in their best interests, and preventing the abduction, exploitation, sale, or trafficking of children.
Families may dual-apply, with no extra fee
Those working with us to adopt a child may apply to more than one program at the same time, including China. International adoption can be unpredictable, and countries do slow down from time to time. "Dual-applying" allows applicants to continue with the adoption process despite an unexpected slow down in one country. You will not pay additional fees to WHFC to participate in a second or even a third program. Please note that only one child or sibling group will be placed with families who dual-apply.
We provide comprehensive pre- and post-adoption services
WHFC offers a wide range of support services for parents and children, including annual cultural celebrations, educational workshops, and post-adoption counseling. We also encourage networking between adoptive families both before and after the arrival of a child.
Our concern for children extends beyond adoption
Humanitarian aid is an important part of the work we do at WHFC. As a child welfare agency, our concern is not only for those children being adopted, but also for the many who will never be adopted. We routinely provide vital goods and services to orphanages and hospitals around the world.
