Our children come home from all around the world. Their cultural and ethnic backgrounds are part of who they are. An adopted child's feeling of pride in their birth culture and country begins in the family, but is also affected by experiences outside the home. It is our goal to help support the process. Throughout the year, Wide Horizons celebrates cultural traditions at family gatherings. These exciting events give adoptive families an opportunity to sample their child's birth culture and network with other families who have adopted children from that part of the world.
Throughout the year, picnics and other family oriented social events give our families an opportunity to meet and get to know families like their own. We also provide cultural camps for our larger programs and participate in homeland tours with adoptive parents and children.
Wide Horizons organizes educational symposia for adoptive families and prospective adoptive families. These informative sessions feature guest speakers including a medical panel. Here is a sampling of WHFC-Sponsored Post Adoption Events:
