What is Adoption?

Adoption is the legal action taken by birth parents who, after careful consideration of what is best for their child's well-being, determine they cannot parent the child. The adoption process helps them find a permanent, loving home for their children, where emotional and financial support will create a stable, life-long future.

Adoption Choices and Resources

If you choose to pursue an adoption plan, you may take an active role in selecting which family will nurture and care for your child. You can actively participate in giving your child the love and security of parents who are emotionally and financially ready. Also, you may benefit from the many options and resources that Wide Horizons For Children offers including:

  • The ability to choose an adoptive family
  • The option for exchange of information throughout the years
  • Assistance with pregnancy-related needs and expenses, including living, legal, and medical care
  • Emotional support during your pregnancy and beyond

How Adoption Works

After you contact us, you will meet with a local social worker in a place convenient to you. Your work with a social worker will be specific to your needs, and your decision will be respected. If you choose to make an adoption plan, the process will include the phases in the illustration below.
