The following is an excerpt from a letter received by Pat Hoopes, Wide Horizons Clinical Director, who accompanied China Travel Group 137 on their trip.
Hi Pat
What can I say, we have been home for over 3 weeks and Jia feels like she has been here for all of her little life. She is such a gift, I just can't explain the joy she brings into our lives, such a little person, yet so powerful. She smiles at me and my world becomes even more wonderful, she cries and I just want to make her happy, she sleeps and I just want to look at her. Her brothers adore her, and her father, well lets just say she has him wrapped around each and ervery one of her little fingers. Pat, I know now why we had to wait the 2 years, because Jia was not ready for us yet, and now that I know her, I would have waited 2 more years... just for this amazing opportunity to be her mom. The joy she brings us like no other. People say how lucky she is to have us, but what they don't realize is that we are the lucky ones. She just completes our family. We had 3 miscarriages before we decided to adopt, and for so long I was so angry and sad and just so confused as to why I could not have any more children. I mean, I'm Puerto Rican, I should have NO problem having a ton of kids.
But now I understand, there was a bigger plan out there for us, her name Jia Zheng. Everything does happen for a reason, for s o long I did not believe that was tru, but now I do. The other day a little girl asked me "Carmen, why did you have to go to China for your baby?" And I said to her, "you know how the stork brings the mommires their babies, well our stork put our daughter in China, and I had to go get her." She paused, smiled and said "OK." I just hope that all the questions I get are that easy to answer. But it is true that Jia is our child in every sense of the word. She is our Angel and she just makes every day a gift.
Thank you so much, it does take a village to raise a child, but in the case of my daughter it took a country, an adoption agency, and a lot of hope to bring that child home to us. So thank you for the role you played in bringing our ANGEL HOME... we will be forever grateful.
