WHFC is pleased to let you know about this event formed by adoptive parents of children originating from Ethiopia to promote cultural enrichment.
Ethiopian Culture Camp 2013 will be held Friday, July 26 - Sunday, July 28.
This camp runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, and allows both Ethiopian-American and Ethiopian adoptive families a weekend of activities connecting them with Ethiopian culture. Among the offerings at camp are language, culture and cooking classes, eskista (shoulder-dancing) lessons, programs for children and teens geared to specific age groups, endless games of soccer, Ethiopian movies, music, singing, hair-braiding and unending impromptu gatherings. Saturday afternoon we will have traditional Ethiopian church songs and an opportunity to play traditional Ethiopian instruments. Saturday night we will have an Ethiopian dinner and dance. On Sunday morning we will have our annual Fun Run for all ages. Camp is held on the Franklin Pierce University campus in Rindge, New Hampshire, just over the Massachusetts border. The campus offers comfortable suite-style accommodations, lots of open space for running and games, sports facilities, a dining hall, field house, and a small swimming beach.
The camp cost includes housing and linens, meals, programs, and all activities for the weekend:
$225 per person ages 4 and over.
$100 per child age 3.
No cost for children under 3.
Thanks to camper donations towards the annual raffle, financial aid is available to families. Please feel free to request aid if you need it.
Please register at ethiopianculturecamp.org. Deposit of $100 per family is due by March 1 to hold your space. Space is limited and last year it filled up. Checks should be made payable to Ethiopian Culture Camp and sent to ECC c/o Jo Hannah Katz, 80 Baker Ave. Lexington, MA 02421.
