Orphan Prevention

Our work over nearly four decades has painstakingly demonstrated the unrelenting struggles faced by children who grow up without the love and comfort of a permanent family. WHFC is committed to providing interventions that help stabilize families at risk of dissolution because of poverty, disease or financial collapse, helping them to remain intact. In fact, the death of a child’s mother is a leading indicator that the child will grow up with severe educational and social limitations. He or she will also be at significantly higher risk of being orphaned. Working in the US, Ethiopia, Guatemala and India, our orphan prevention work provides a clear path to a better future for thousands of youngsters. These programs, focused on keeping children in their families and communities, include psychological counseling, world class medical attention, life skills training and parenting strategies.
