Sometimes the next step into your future is a look at the past.

FILE REVIEW

We can help review your official file. We understand that over the years documents can sometimes be destroyed or misplaced or never shared with the adopted child. In addition, information may have been added to the file through the years. With WHFC post adoption support, you receive:

  • A consultation with an adoption professional who has reviewed your file
  • Copies of all non-identifying information available in the file

Eligibility: Open to WHFC birth parents, adoptive parents and adopted persons.


INITIAL SEARCH CONSULTATION

We are here to help you from the first moment you begin to explore your history.  Our professional counselors are available as you uncover possibly the best path in your life.  WHFC provides:

  • Explore your motivation and feelings about search
  • Discuss timing that is right for you
  • Provide education regarding the process of search, reunion and travel
  • Make referrals to longer-term counseling as appropriate

Eligibility: Open to ALL birth parents, adoptive parents and adopted persons.


SEARCH & FACILITATED CONTACT

Once you’ve made the decision to conduct a search, WHFC will continue to help with counseling and guidance through every step of the process –even if you need to travel or hire your own representatives to conduct the search. You receive:

  • Facilitated contact with a WHFC social worker or representative OR referral to an outside agency or the placing country
  • Assistance with preparation of letters and photos, counseling regarding potential outcomes, preparation for travel
  • Short-term counseling once initial contact has been made or when contact is unsuccessful
  • Referral to longer term counseling when appropriate

Fee: $300

Eligibility: Open to birth families, adoptive parents and adopted persons.


COUNSELING, CONSULTATION AND COACHING

Our social workers can help you understand and meet the needs of your adopted child related to any aspect of parenting and child development, including: educational challenges, difficult behavior, discipline, grief and loss, family transitions (moves, divorce, death), sibling relationships, and bonding and attachment. WHFC provides:

  • Thorough consultation regarding your primary parenting or child concern
  • Recommendation and coaching on parenting strategies, 2-3 sessions
  • Referrals to education, resources and outside professionals for long term counseling if needed
  • Follow up counseling regarding progress and additional recommendations available

Fee: $300

Eligibility: All adoptive families welcome.

**Clients may re-enroll for additional hours at the discretion of the counselor.


REUNION

Reunions between birth parents and birth children are often richly rewarding and meaningful, but they require attention to the unique needs of both parent and child. WHFC helps ensure that everyone’s needs are addressed and that the potential for a successful reunion is high. WHFC provides:

  • Consultation regarding the timing, location and content of the initial meeting
  • Facilitation of the meeting by an experienced post adoption counselor
  • Recommendations regarding the path forward after the initial meeting
  • Short-term post meeting counseling for the birth parent and/or adoptee
  • Referral to longer term counseling when appropriate

Fee: $500 + Travel Expenses.

Eligibility: Open to birth parents and adopted persons.


FACILITATION IN OPEN ADOPTION

Because adoption is a lifelong journey, everyone’s needs may change along the way. Whether you want a different type of contact or professional guidance, WHFC can help you negotiate and continue your open adoption in the way that most benefits your family and child.  WHFC provides:

  • Consultation regarding the original agreement and needs of the child
  • Facilitation of a meeting by an experienced post adoption counselor
  • Recommendation regarding the path forward
  • Short-term post meeting counseling for the birth and/or adoptive parent
  • Referral to longer term counseling when appropriate

Fee: $300.

Eligibility: Open to ALL birth parents and adoptive families.
